Consider Columbus

For those not in the field of scientific endeavour (or indeed other forays into investigating the unknown) here is a quick working definition of what it is all about.

Research, n.:
Consider Columbus:
He didn't know where he was going.
When he got there he didn't know where he was.
When he got back he didn't know where he had been.
And he did it all on someone else's money.

  1. Well consider Burke and Wills.

They didn't know where they were going (obviously)
    They never made it
They didn't know if they would get back (they didn't.)
And they still did it on someone else's money.

    Hooray for Australian underachievers!
